This piece grew from my gradient paintings where I work solid bands of color to smooth gradients the elements, defined using brush strokes. The question I asked myself while sketching was, “If the gradients start as bands of color, what if I remove the step of working the color to smooth gradients and just use the bands to define each element?"
From single color, to gradated, to banded multi-color elements.
